I thought I was the only One
At work one day I observed so many parents, let me correct this, so many mothers fight with their children about putting their coats on before going outside. That’s what we do! Making sure our babies are bundled up before going in the cold weather, that’s neither here nor there!
Anyhow, after about the fifth meltdown I jokingly said, “she’s not the only one”. Mom looked at me confused. I replied with clarity “she’s not the only one who is refusing to put her coat on”. Mom sighed, smiled, and her frustrations disappeared with the simple “I thought I was the only one.”
“I thought I was the only one” sunk in my stomach. No Ma’am, you are not the only one! We are in the trenches together!
During the interview with Elle Magazine Beyoncé said
"I think the most stressful thing for me is balancing work and life. Making sure I am present for my kids - dropping Blue off at school, taking Rumi and Sir to their activities, making time for date nights with my husband, and being home in time to have dinner with my family - all while running a company can be challenging. Juggling all of those roles can be stressful, but I think that's life for any working mom."
Trying to balance home, work, husband/ friendships, children activities, homework, events holidays, vacations, etc. Takes a special skill! A skill that takes planning, organizing and the understanding you are not the only one and it is IMPOSSIBLE to do everything and be everywhere!
While reading this short article on Apple News by Bang with Beyoncé, my conception of celebrity mothers was changed, celebrities struggle as well! We are not along, there’s not a special formal to getting everything done, we just get it done! Motherhood is a lifestyle!
There will be times when you must work early or work later than usual but you rather be with your babies. There will be times when you are too tired to read a bedtime story. There will be times when your husband is looking forward to date night and you rather have Uber eats and watch Netflix.
Guess what! You are not the only one, you are not a “bad mommy” nor have you failed your relationship when you just don’t have the energy. ( just don’t make it a habit) they’ll understand! Motherhood is challenging!
If you are ever wondering “am I the only one?” Trust and believe YOU are NOT the ONLY ONE THAT’S STRUGGLING! It’s up to you how you handle it!
This even more reasons why Mommy Self Care should be guilt FREE!!!
